Coach’s Jacket and Olive Drab…
It’s been a few months since I’ve posted any new looks to Old Man Hickory and I have recently been very inspired by some pieces I’ve seen. Looking at all the previous posts I’m sure you can tell that I have an affinity for baseball wear and am constantly wearing a ball cap. This outfit would look as good off the field as on.
The main pieces that have inspired me to put together an outfit are the Beams Plus Casco Bay Coach’s Jacket in the Inventory Stockroom and The Real McCoy’s C-2 Winter Flying Vest, a hefty $625 at Blue in Green in NYC. With there still being quite a chill in the air here in Vancouver, the warm wool Flying Vest would make the spring jacket nature of the Coach’s Jacket totally wearable. Both pieces are finely crafted in Japan, of course.
The rest of the outfit are pieces every man has room in his closet for. The hat is Ebbets Field Flannels for Inventory Items. The Champion reproduction white tee and bandana are both Real McCoy’s; all quality staples from the always amazing Inventory Stockroom. The jeans are One Wash Momotaro’s and the boots are incredible Russell Moccasin Country Chukkas for the Japanese market. This is one perfect collection of meticulous and simple Japanese and American made items.

What I’d Wear On the Deck of an Aircraft Carrier…
A classic navy deck jacket is definitely going to be my next outerwear aquisition. They have a nice short fit and are a great alternative to a mountain parka or denim jacket. This one is made by The Real McCoy’s and I’m sure is better than an original, as is the case with most Real McCoy’s stuff.
Next, as always, is an Ebbets Field Flannels hat. This one is for a Jewish longhaired barnstorming team called the House of David.
The chinos in this outift are impeccable and are made by the always impeccable Mister Freedom. Mister Freedom pieces are so classic yet entirely unique and creative. From the work shirts, vests and pants, to the incredible outerwear Christophe Loiron designs, I love it all.
To top off the look, the boots are Russell Moccasin chukkas exclusive to Japan with triple vamps and are probably $900+. I’m sure Russell Moc would custom make them for more than half that price (and you could get them in a size bigger than 9.)
The rest of the pieces are by Monitaly and Velva Sheen.

Two of These Things I Own, The Rest I Want… Old Man Hickory’s return
This workwear outfit comes from a few inspirations. The hat I fell in love with ever since I had read on the Inventory Magazine website that they were collaborating with my favorite sports clothing manufacturer, Ebbet’s Field Flannels (which I’ve posted about numerous times on OMH). It is almost the exact same hat as the one Robert Ryan’s character wore in a brilliant film called Bad Day at Black Rock from 1955, a film filled with beautiful workwear and incredible 50’s casual costuming (I’ll post a pic from the film after this post).
I also recently purchased this beautifully constructed s/s work shirt from The Real McCoy’s, one of the most incredible of the many Japanese workwear reproduction companies. It seems like everything I see that The Real McCoy’s produces I want to own, and it seems like it would all age incredibly with wear.
Of the pieces I don’t own, the Viberg lace to toe work shoes that are produced in Victoria, B.C. for the Japanese market, are a serious want, but at their price point are a little prohibitive. Also the Left Field chinos and the vibrant asymmetrical Solmate socks are some really desirable pieces.

Tenzing Casual…
I’ve been pretty fascinated by all things Nigel Cabourn lately and as one of the only users of Ventile in his design, he is even more fascinating. This blazer, designed in honor of Hillary’s sherpa Tenzing Norgay is made of Harris tweed with Ventile shoulder and sleeve patches. It would look great with my Engineered Garments painter pants I love and Russell Moccasin chukkas.
The rest of the outfit is made up of pieces by Columbiaknit, Two Feet Ahead, and Sugar Cane.

A Dream Rain Outfit…
I got rained on torrentially today and really wish I had this outfit on instead of what I was wearing. The pants I had on were okay because they were heavy wool and I was wearing the Mt. Rainier Design longjohns pictured, but the rest was undesirable.
This Arcteryx coat is incredible and I’m sure it could take a serious downpour. The rest is made up of pieces by Engineered Garments, Filson, The Superior Labor, and Red Wing Shoes.
